Three Simple Truck Repair Procedures to Save You Money

Kenzi Jacobs

You should stop harboring the idea that whenever your truck needs repairs or maintenance, you have to look for an auto workshop to find a technician who can repair it. You never know where the next truck problem could find you; it could happen while you are in a remote area or when there is no money to pay for repairs. The following simple truck repair procedures will help you to learn the basics of truck repair while saving a lot of money:

Lubricating your truck's tailgate mechanism

Since you work on several projects throughout the week while transporting different items, some debris might find their way into your truck's tailgate. The debris will interfere with the lock and latch mechanisms and hence causing the tailgate's failure to open. To solve this problem, you only need a socket set and lithium grease spray. Remove the tailgate's access panel or cover and use an air compressor machine to blow off the lock mechanism. You should then spray some lithium grease to the levers and the pivot points. After spraying, try operating the tailgate door handle to see if the problem has been fixed.

Replacement of the transfer case's shift motor

Sometimes, your truck's shift motor can fail to operate causing your transmission to get stuck in either the two or four-wheel drive. Solving this problem is very easy but you have to first refer to your manufacturer's wiring illustration to guide you while checking for the power at the motor. Next, detach the electrical connector and the shift motor bolts. Locate an interior ground wire and cut, after which you will connect it to the new wiring connector. Fuse the merged wires and seal them with heat-remediation tubing to keep them sealed. After that, you can apply the RTV coating around the motor's edge.

Changing the differential oil

Your truck's differential oil should be changed regularly to keep the truck in good roadworthy service. You need to know that differential oil inside the differential gearbox works by transferring away heat from the gears. This helps to keep the differential in a good working condition. But the differential oil may at times breakdown due to wear and extreme temperatures. All you need to do is draining out the old differential oil and replace it with the new one that in accordance with the truck maker's standards.

Such simple procedures require some dedicated time and concentration to critically follow the procedures. Any error in the first three procedures can lead to costly repairs at the auto workshop. Nonetheless, if you are unsure if you can fix the problem by yourself, try finding a qualified auto-technician for assistance.
